    Never watched the sequel, I tend to worry about the quality of them, but I liked the first movie. I accepted it as stupid fun the whole time, so I never got too irritated when something unbelievable happened. I just "assumed" (read: pretended) there was some wonderful reason for their tricks that didn't involve magic that the audience was too stupid to know. The way the plot went, despite the unbelievable abilities they showcase, I inferred that none of the characters had any magical abilities. Though real magic *does* exist in this film's universe and it's showcased pretty much only with the "Eye" member's abilities right at the end. I'm not sure why they would specifically recruit magicians, the frauds of the entertainment industry, to become actual wizards, but idk... maybe they just figure they're better at convincing people what they do isn't real and can keep their secrets best? I suppose in that sense it's kind of brilliant. "A magician never reveals their secrets" being taken to the extreme by making them part of a secret society of spellcasters. Hang on, I'm gonna go watch the sequel now. Might as well, we're about to talk about it.

    • @Lucifronz
      @Lucifronz 3 дні тому

      The most unbelievable magic in Now You See Me 2 was the FBI somehow having jurisdiction in London *and* still being allowed to lead the case over British Intelligence. Just a bunch of random London popo there instead of highly-trained agents, carrying away the baddies. It was kind of nice being in on one of the tricks for once, though. Obviously it's all CGI, not *real* tricks, but they do try to base them all in *some* sort of realism and from the moment I saw the reverse-water device, I was already clued in when it showed again later on. I don't remember *why* I know about the strobe effect, but it was still nice to be aware of what was supposed to be going on. Even if the trick itself is kind of obvious to anyone observing it, of course. Sequel definitely lacked the charm of the original and had even more ridiculous nonsense in it, but it was okay. The "I was your dad's best friend all along" twist was laughably dumb, though. Actively ruins the original, too, by recontextualizing everything.

    I also have to say I don't buy the story that ketchup is the precursor to tomato sauce. I think as soon as we discovered refined sugar we started making tomato sauce. There's no connection to the weird fish sauce thing except the name, and I don't call it ketchup so it's basically meaningless to me. I assume it's inspired by pasata or something that's actually made of tomatoes, and they just called it ketchup because apparently people like that word a lot.

  • @SineN0mine3
    @SineN0mine3 4 дні тому

    The fact that tomato sauce is the go to for food you don't actually want to taste is exactly why it's the best sauce. It dominates all the other flavours because it's better than them. In my country the word ketchup never caught on because tomato sauce is so ubiquitous and beloved that it's simply called "The sauce". If there's any other sauce on the table, you'd better request it by name or you'll get tomato.

  • @SineN0mine3

    14:20 While I kind of agree that watching movies won't do permanent damage to a kid in general, I think that's probably only true to a point. People our age saw much, much worse things on the internet and honestly some of that stuff really did fuck me up. The fact that it was real makes a difference, but there's probably some fake stuff that would genuinely traumatise a kid. If you actually went full clock work orange and forced somebody to watch horrific images they'd probably be seriously messed up by it. I think it's good for parents to have rules about what kids watch, at least then they have to take some responsibility for how it makes them feel if it upsets them. If you watched it at a friends house, even though your parents told you not to, you can't blame them for letting you do it. I think it's fairly obvious why this isn't a black and white issue once you consider pornography. It's one thing to be sex positive, but deliberately showing that kind of stuff to a kid would obviously be creepy. I think it's rational for parents to extend that to other adult themes like violence and bad language. They know that they'll never stop their kids seeing those things, but that doesn't mean they should encourage it. You only get to be a kid once. They'll grow up and eventually sex and drugs and violence will be boring to them like they are to everyone else but it's up to them to discover it at their own pace.

    Tv intros are a holdover from the days when everything was live and you'd be frantically grabbing a can of coke from the kitchen and a bag of crisps as your family all ask if you can grab them one of each too but only as you get back into the room with your own stuff

  • @HA11EYS_COM3T

    Ok, so there is precedent for the audience not noticing that the person they’re looking for is already among them in the crowd. Jack Sheppard pulled this trick while escaping from prison, shouting “there he goes!” To distract the audience _while he was in the audience_ and made his escape (while still in his manacles). It’s reasonable to think that the magician performing such a trick could have a double pretend to get eaten by piranhas while the magician, drenched in their unholy liquid of choice, calmly enters the audience, before unveiling themself to the crowd.

    But the inflation rates are the same everywhere...Some places are most costly than others because ppl are willing to pay more. Inflation is just the increase on money supply, only a goverment or an illicit actor can do that. I might have to watch the film maybe they mention it but unless someone in the rich zone is pumping out money i don't get how it can be THAT much of a difference. Irl prices from one place of a country to another don't ever go x5 times the price for the same product. Aka the starting part is correct about instead of 3 minutes going to 4 minutes but the jump in prices is crazy after it. Ive read that its implied rich ppl do it on pourpose to drive other ppl out but how is that on pourpose. Its just a side effect, someone on a cafe shop just comparing prices with its local competittion isn't going to be trying to get poor ppl out, he will even try to reduce prices if it means he can atract some part of the poor ppl.
